CREW Members Tour New CityPark Soccer Stadium

That’s right, St. Louis is ready to welcome a whole new kind of football team – St. Louis City SC Soccer – and CityPark is a home field, or “pitch,” to be proud of! The new stadium boasts 22,500 seats with 32 local restaurant partners and several club levels. With a pitch below the surrounding ground level, fans can sit even closer to the action! On February 14, CREW members were treated to a tour of the new stadium.

The design of the entire stadium is thoughtful, incorporating technology and natural materials, while the orientation of the stadium highlights views to two of St. Louis’ iconic sites: The Gateway Arch and Union Station. While walking through the stadium, it was exciting to see touches from so many local creatives – including so many CREW members!  

St. Louis SC is one of the only franchises to have direct access to and from their practice facility, which sits just across the street from the new stadium and is a great perk for our home team. In addition to these two large facilities, St. Louisans will notice a couple other perks in the Downtown West district:

The Lou Fusz Plaza: Fans may be enjoying Steve’s Hot Dogs inside the stadium, but that doesn’t mean pedestrians outside can’t take part in the atmosphere. The Lou Fusz Plaza, located on the east side of the stadium, gives pedestrians access to food vendors along 20th Street.  Can’t snag a ticket to the home opener (just a few weeks away!)? No worries, grab your friends and join in the excitement here. 

Mill Creek Valley Memorial: Just steps away from the Lou Fusz Plaza stands a beautiful memorial to the Mill Creek Valley neighborhood. The permanent art installation – a project in partnership with Great Rivers Greenway, Harris-Stowe State University, Counterpublic 2023 Civic Art Exhibition, and STLMade artist Damon Davis – stands to honor the neighborhood that once spread across the CityPark stadium. Although Mill Creek Valley was demolished in the 1950s, the memorial gives us a chance to see and experience the city’s and the community’s history.
